In the 1970's there was a tremendous increase in box car orders. This was the result of both railroads needed new equipment and private owners getting into the market. The biggest non-railroad operator in this wave of orders was Rail Box.

One of the cars available at this time was the PS 5277 50 ft model. This car enjoyed considerable success with Rail Box and others. As these cars have been replaced or retired by Rail Box, other operators have purchased them. This has resulted in an interesting mix of schemes seen on these cars, from original railroad operators to leasing companies and second hand owners including other railroads. Examples of this car can still be seen across the rails of North America.
