Thrall introduced these unique cars in the mid 1980's. The middle wells are 45 feet while the outside wells are 40 feet. This offered flexibility in loading of containers and also let to some interesting versions of these cars for refrigerated containers. These were operated by APL initially, but were also adopted by a few other operators.
