Introduced in 1975, the EMD SD40-2 is an updated version of the successful SD40 and has gone on to serve as the workhorse of railroads large and small across North America. Used by virtually every Class I and II and by many shortlines, this locomotive has endured the test of time and asked for more. Many examples are still in service today and there are multiple rebuild and refurbishment programs going on ensuring that these locomotives will be a familiar site for years to come.
