The Kato N Scale FEF-3  follows in the footsteps of its Southern Pacific 4-8-4 GS-4  cousin, refining the basic concept of a high-power, flexible steam locomotive which is easily upgradable to DCC by coupling a special, isolated coreless motor drive system with heavy duty flywheels and a flexible cross-braced suspension system that gives the locomotive a high torque, high traction grip that ensures constant and consistent pressure spread across the primary drivers.

The Kato N scale FEF-3 will be available in Analog as well as DCC equipped variations, including ESU Loksound DCC, specially installed by Kato USA! For those modelers looking for sound but operating analog layouts, Kato is also excited to announce a new Sound Card  for the Kato Sound Box (#22-101-1, MSRP $279.99),  featuring heavy steam sounds with both prototypical FEF and GS-4  horns, allowing this card to do double-duty!

 DCC and DCC+Sound versions of these locomotives are built-to-order as a special service from Kato USA. Modelers whowish to install their own DCC Sound decoders into their existing locomotives will be able to follow detailed pictorialinstructions posted on the Kato USA website at the time of release.
