The Trinity 25,500 gallon insulated, general-purpose tank car was introduced in 1986 and production continues today. There are over 13,000 presently in service. Typical commodities include vegetable oil, tallow, styrene, benzene, asphalt, biodiesel, acrylates, and numerous other chemicals.

In 2015, Norfolk Southern teamed with industry partner DuPont on 25 multiday training sessions using a DuPont training tank car. The tank car, moved to training locations by Norfolk Southern, offered emergency responders hands-on training with the type of car the industry uses to transport hazardous material, including lessons on tank car safety features.

In April 2016 NS will put a new safety train in service with a dedicated locomotive, 2 box car classrooms, 4 tank cars, and 2 specially equipped flat cars to provide hands-on training.

Interested in building this train? Atlas is releasing the EMD GP38 locomotive Norfolk Southern rebuilt in house to GP38-2 standards in both a Master Silver and Master Gold version. The Silver version is: 150-10002369 & the Gold version is: 1500-10002405. The reservation due date for both has passed, but PWRS will attempt to fill all orders. Expected release for both locomotives is January 2017. No information about further product releases in this schems is available at present.
