Pacific Car and Foundry is one of the nation?s preeminent freight car manufacturers. In 1973 and 1974 PC&F produced a large order of 50?6? boxcars for Southern Pacific and its affiliate, Cotton Belt. These cars were delivered in the B-70-68 and B-100-38 class. These 4898 cubic foot capacity cars featured 14? Youngstown plug doors, Hydra Cushion? under frames, and load dividers with air bags. They were rated for either 70 ton or 100 ton depending on the capacity of the trucks installed on the given car.
