Travelers aboard the City of Los Angeles in the 1960's could enjoy the best of both worlds, whether relaxing in style aboard luxurious Pullman sleepers and lingering over dinner in the signature Dome-Diner or its lower level “Gold Room,” or taking advantage of lower priced coach fares and tasty meals served quickly in the Café-Lounge.
Walthers Proto brings you 10 limited edition cars to model this great train, and now there are two ways to customize your consists for operation or display. For the first time ever, individual cars with a factory printed name or number as appropriate are available from the 920-9540 series. Or model any car in the City of Los Angeles fleet with the standard cars from the 920-9530 series, which include decals with the full selection of names and numbers used on the prototypes.
With demand for affordable coach seats increasing UP ordered new long-distance coaches from American Car & Foundry (ACF) in 1953 under lot numbers #3812 delivered as car numbers 5450 to 5457 and cars 5458 to 5488 in lot #4095. All were fitted with 44 reclining seats for comfortable day or night travel and were virtually identical, expect for the large rooftop radio antenna installed on cars in the 4095-series. Assigned to many popular UP Domeliners, they also joined the ranks of the flagship City of Los Angeles to provide lower-priced accommodations during the winter months of the 1960s.
