General Steel Castings introduced their 60 ft bulkhead flatcar in 1956. A car of tremendous versatility, these served nationwide in service on many railroads. The sturdy cast steel frame construction of these cars allowed them to be used in a multitude of services including lumber, wallboard, poles, and heavy equipment services and many others. GSC, located in Granite City IL, supplied either complete cars or cast steel flatcar bodies to various railroads. Railroads that elected to purchase only the bodies would then equip the cars with components preferred for projected service.

Seaboard Coast Line (SCL) “1978 Repaint” nods to the late 1970s, with the Spartan lettering common for many railroads in the era. The stylized SCL logo stands out, and the era-correct COTS panels and U-1 inspection dot finish off this car.
