The EF80, the real locomotive, is an AC/DC locomotive model which was in service on the Joban line from 1962 to 1967. As an AC/DC locomotive, it has adopted the method of installing a motor on each truck.

The locomotive is one of the first models which was used to pull both freight and passenger trains. It is featured without front sunshades and fitted with the original cab side windows.

The model is the most suitable to pull #10-1518 Series 20 Sleeper Express "Yuzuru", which is planned for a simultaneous release and it is recommended as the locomotive to pull the express, as well as local and freight trains then in service on the Joban line.

The "Yuzuru" was the second sleeper limited express which started its operation from Ueno station in October, 1965. Then the AC electrified track was still under extension on the Joban line. So the C62 steam locomotive pulled the "Yuzuru" between the un-electrified area between Taira and Sendai.

Meanwhile, the "Hakutsuru" was the first sleeper limited express departing from Ueno which made the debut in October, 1984, one year prior to the "Yuzuru". The train traveled between Ueno and Tokyo via the Tohoku line, combining a rare coach with seats NAHA 20. "Hakutsuru" started operation with series 583 in 1968 by replacing and transferring series 20 used for "Hakutsuru".
