Steam To Silverton

In the middle of September we ride the Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad between both those towns in the Colorado Rockies. Located near the four corners region of Southwestern Colorado this 45 mile former branch line of the Denver and Rio Grande Western railroad has operated continually since 1882. Today we ride in the glass- topped premium car, the "Knight Sky", and we capture for you the majority of the highlights along the journey. With great views through the windows and ceiling one can see pretty well. However, we shot most of the footage from the end platforms where the view is better and allows us to see not only the scenery but the engine and train ahead of us in the scenery. There are great views looking along the highline cliff, down into the Animas Gorge, crossing High Bridge(One of 5 bridges), and following the Animas River close-enough you can hear the roaring rapids next to us. We also stop several times for water and to drop off some passengers. Our locomotive is K-36 2-8-2 number 480 for this journey.

The video coverage is northward (Railroad West) from Durango to Silverton, where we arrive passing the old depot and stop at the end of track in the street of this old mining town. We will also give some of the history of the railroad along the route. Maps and narration along with screen titles give you locations and points of interest along the route. This famous train ride is not to be missed, and this video will let the viewer enjoy it many times over. Available in SD and Blu-Ray HD DVD. Live sound of the engines working upgrade most of the way to Silverton. 90 Minutes Standard Definition DVD $25.00, Blu-Ray $30.00.

TRACKSIDE ON THE D&S - Blu-Ray DVD

Most of our videos are scenes of the steam trains in action from off the train. This is one of those videos that allows you to see the train as it passes and in some of the scenery the average person would see riding the train from that perspective. As such this is a nice companion video to "Steam to Silverton" since we are not on the train but watching it from the outside.

There are two trains per day from Durango, and we enjoy scenes leaving Durango, and from a mountain perch overlooking Durango and the river with a great perspective. The train travels for several miles on level track before climbing Hermosa Hill between Hermosa Tank and Rockwood. We see several scenes in this region including Hermosa, Highway 250, plus others. In addition we have a neat scene at Beaver Creek Canyon, sometimes called the "Little High Line"(See cover shot). We also drove to Silverton one day, and got both trains in the area, including one along the river, and another passing the old depot. There are also some scenes backing and on the wye where engines are serviced and turned for the return trip. On the return trips we have scenes at Rockwood through the cut, plus others between Rockwood and Durango in the glorious afternoon lighting. The weather was perfect with clear blue sky for all these scenes on the railroad. If all that wasn't enough we have also included a segment riding the train where we show a few scenes along the Animas River above Tacoma, then at High Bridge, and along the High Line in the late afternoon showing the cliffs and Animas River Gorge below. Hard working steam action awaits in this show. 77 Minutes. Standard Definition $25.00, Blu-Ray $30.00. Also see D&S Combo for savings on both videos.
