Kato will make an N-scale model of popular series 221 in a new variation. Since its debut in 1989, the series 221 has been in service as the main train on the JR Kyoto line/Kobe line, as well as on local trains on the Ako line/Bantan line. Series 221 still plays an important role in the urban network, even though it is not operating as the “Shinkaisoku” (New Rapid).

The train was renovated in 2013 with the lead car equipped with safety shields (to
prevent passengers from falling from a platform) and now with HID lights & fog
headlights.
