The EMD F40PH is synonymous with the Amtrak era of American passenger trains. Although it has been retired from Amtrak service, it operated for over 20 years and today it continues to be the motive power for commuter railroads such as VRE, MBTA, Caltrain, Metrolink, and Metra) and more all over the United States. Over 400 F40PH locomotives have been manufactured by EMD in various configurations.

As part of its Kobo custom line, Kato USA is now offering special exclusive production runs of special paint schemes and super detailed cars! These items are custom built and modified by a master modeler in Japan and will be produced on a per-order basis; if you miss the deadline for the first order - don’t  fret! Kato USA will continue to take orders for future deliveries, possible thanks to the “built to order” nature of these items!

These custom runs of F40PH locomotives will be repainted and re-detailed from existing VRE units with some minor physical modifications to make them as close as possible to their road’s equipment. They feature enhanced paint details such as decorated plows (as appropriate), modified horn placement, painted railings and more!

Please note that as they are repaints, some details may not be 100% accurate to the prototype.
