The Series 151 Express was originally introduced in 1958 as Series 20 Car, and renamed to the Series 151 in 1959.

In 1960, the passenger car express "Tsubame (Swallow)" was changed to electric car express with Series 151 car. The 151 Tsubame Train contains five 1st class cars and one parlor car in its train consist.
