N Scale

Commercialized the GS-4 traction steam locomotive and the West Coast daytime limited express passenger train Morning Daylight, which were operated on the Southern Pacific Railway in the United States in the 1940s.
 Morning Daylight Consist
Morning Daylight is a limited express train that gained popularity in the United States with the phrase "the most beautiful train in the world". Both locomotives and passenger cars are painted brightly, and 13 of the 18-car trains are more than 2/3. It was a train with a characteristic in the formation itself, which is an articulated car. In addition, although it is a daytime train, dining cars, cafe cars, bar cars, etc. are also connected, and it was popular as a first-class luxury train at that time.

As the name of "the most beautiful train in the world", the appearance with bright paint is beautifully reproduced. By using 4 additional sets, it is possible to reproduce the same 18-car train as the actual car.

The GS-4 runs on four massive 80 inch drivers, 300lbs psi boiler pressure, and puts out a roaring 5,500 horsepower at 55mph, with a maximum speed of 110 mph. The large drivers gave the locomotive a high top speed, the telling mark of a steam engine built for passenger service. The GS-4 was built for the Southern Pacific Railroad by the Lima Locomotive Works and delivered in the early 1940s for premier passenger trains of Southern Pacific, finding its way to the Daylight series of name trains. One of the more unique specifications for the GS-4 by the SP was its Mars light, a necessity with the large amount of grade crossings and fog present on the West Coast. The Mars light, like ditch lights on modern locomotives, was utilized as a warning for grade crossings that a high speed train was approaching, its shifting light patterns serving as an eye catcher in foggy conditions.

Daylight

Kato will be re-releasing the N Scale # 4449 in her recognizable Daylight Southern Pacific “Lines” paint scheme in N Scale. This DCC friendly locomotive includes revised drives for a smoother ride. Add the 10 Car Passenger set, along with four copies of the add-on to create the full 1940’s 18-car Daylight consist!

Daylight Pic Magazine Ad

Considered to be “The Most Beautiful Train in the World,” model railroaders of all ages will enjoy displaying this masterpiece on their layout. Unlike our past release of the Daylight, which represented a later look at the train, our rerun will represent the early 1940’s “as delivered” look of the Daylight where it ran under the name “Southern Pacific Lines.”
