Series Suha 43 was mass-produced in more than 1,000 cars, a passenger car which represents Japan National Railways.
As it had been manufactured in a long period, it could be seen in verious versions in terms of painting and conversion all over Japan, used for express trains as well as for local trains.
OHA 46/OHAFU 45 were the passenger cars made by making lighter post-war general standard Series SUHA 43 ‘s SUHA 43/SUHAFU 42. They appeared in 1955 and were deployed across Japan except Hokkaido and operated widely as express to local trains. Since 1963, the car color was changed from brown to blue when they are modernized (by replacing the bulbs with fluorescent lamps, etc.) and remained in the service till the end of JNR.
