● Series 521(2rd)

Series 521 is an AC/DC suburban train which JR West Japan newly produced for the first time in Japan. After opening of Hokuriku Shinkansen, it is still used as a main train model in Hokuriku region.  It resembles Series 223 in terms of the exterior and interior specifications. Yet it is dressed with a blue belt like local trains in Hokuriku province and distinguished with more rooftop details for AC/DC electric train. The front face is equipped with side shields to prevent passengers on the platform from falling among cars, when the car is coupled with another car – a unique feature for JR West Japan trains.

Sold as a handy 2-car set, the scale model set is suitable for running on a small diorama. You can enjoy by coupling the 2-car sets to make a total 4-car set and a total 6-car set, representing a long train in rush hours.

● Series 521(3rd)

521 Series 3rd.Version is a group newly built in 2013 or later, and features a shock-absorbing cab and a different slanted light arrangement than the previous series.

All of the trains belong to Kanazawa railway yard, and are the same as the regular trains between Tsuruga and Kanazawa on the Hokuriku Honsen. Basically, the trains are operated in two train-car, and the maximum number of the train-cars is six.

Two trains were transferred to IR Ishikawa Railway when the Hokuriku Shinkansen started service in 2015, and a new train with the same appearance (different wrapping paint) is also in service at Ainokaze Toyama Railway.
