The first Martian craft is seen streaking through the night sky. Later to land in the distant countryside. H.G. Wells’ classic science fiction novel War of the Worlds, first published in 1898, chronicles an Earth invasion by Martians, and humanity’s attempt to retake the planet. This novel-inspired 40’ freight car with Bettendorf trucks is decorated in a patriotic billboard scheme and features drawings from the 1906 edition, illustrated by Henrique Alvim Corrêa.
