Up until the early 1980’s an essential car on all freight consists was the Caboose. Designed as a home away from home, these cars notonly became a moving residence, but also a mobile office and look out for problems with the train ahead or behind during long trips.Generally these cars were well cared for, cleaned when returning to the home yard, but did pick up considerable road grime along theway as represented here.
