Item Introduction

The DD51 locomotive adopted the imagery of the "Hokutosei" sleeper express following the opening of the Seikan Tunnel in 1988, which connected Honshu and Hokkaido. Repainted in a distinctive blue with a gold stripe, it served as a traction engine for various trains, including sleeper expresses like "Marimo," "Daisetsu," and "Rishiri," along with group trains. It played a crucial role in passenger transport in Hokkaido during the early Heisei era.

◆ The DD51 is recommended as the prime mover for the simultaneous release of the 10-1953 14 series 500 series sleeper expresses "Marimo/Taisetsu/Rishiri."
