This Chicago & North Western flat car with Bettendorf trucks was used as a buffer car to help with the transport of a large spruce tree that was cut down in Nemo, South Dakota, to become the 1970 National Christmas Tree. It traveled by rail and survived at least two derailments before arriving at our nation’s capital.
