Prototype Info

The Wabtec ET44AC (Evolution Series Tier 4, AC traction) is a high-horsepower diesel-electric locomotive built by Wabtec Corporation (formerly GE Transportation) to meet the stringent EPA Tier 4 emissions standards. It is part of GE’s Evolution Series (GEVO) and is designed to replace the ES44AC, featuring enhanced fuel efficiency and lower emissions.

There are several variations of the ET44AC, such as the ET44C4 ordered by BNSF. The ET44C4 comes with 4 traction motors instead of the common 6. The middle axles of the ET44C4 are operated by computer control for weight distribution purposes.

On a warm summer afternoon in Palmer Lake, Colorado Atlas’ own Cody Booker caught BNSF ET44C4 #3792 snaking north towards Denver leading a good-sized mixed freight. The commotion of the BNSF ET44C4 locomotive briefly interrupts the game of disc golf in the background.
