● Item Introduction

The EF64 1000 was developed for steep-grade routes and entered service between 1980 and 1982. While its performance is nearly identical to the earlier 0-series, the 1000-series featured significant changes in design and snow protection enhancements, resulting in a completely different external appearance. It was also the last DC electric locomotive manufactured by Japanese National Railways (JNR). Over time, some units have been repainted from the newer refurbished scheme back to the original JNR-era color. These changes began in 2017, after all units completed refurbishment and visual inspection markings were no longer necessary. Today, the locomotives operate under JR Freight specifications while wearing historic JNR paint—a very unique blend of eras.

◆ Kato (Japan) are re-releasing the EF64 1000 model featuring the signature rooftop air conditioner.

It pairs perfectly with the [10-2070 Hoki 2000 Yahashi Kogyo] freight set, which will be available at the same time.
