This tank car was first produced in the late 1980’s by Trinity to carry sweeteners. The car is still available for production and the uses have been expanded to other liquid and powder food-related products.

Tank cars have been around from the early days of railroading. As time has passed, bigger and better versions have been introduced. Today, there are a variety of tank car types and sizes carrying a wide variety of liquid and gaseous goods. These 19,600 gallon cars are a modern design used to carry a variety of goods including oil products and corn syrup. Used by a wide variety of operators, they look right at home on any modern era layout.

Trinity Leasing

Trinity introduced the 19.6K Gallon tank car in the late 1980s, it is still included in TrinityRail’s product catalog to this day. Initially built primarily to carry sweeteners, as these cars go through their service lives, some are being rebuilt for other services as well. The Trinity 19.6 is a coiled insulated tank car with a very distinctive “cut-away” behind the side access ladders. Various dome access walkway handrail options have been spotted from “early” to “late” deliveries. InterMountain is observing these handrail variants per prototype. InterMountain is also offering a “Semi-gloss” version depicting the sheen exhibited on the Trinity Leasing (TILX) builder photo for this production run of 47816. These cars can often be found in ADM service among others.
