With it’s very distinctive horizontal ribs, the Trinity 5239 Hopper is now the most common type of 3 Bay hopper on the Union Pacific system. With production beginning in 2021, now over 3,500 5239s roam their system daily, also interchanging to other railroads. 5239s now sometimes make up nearly half of Union Pacific’s unit grain trains and are often also found in mixed manifest service.
