Profile

Electric locomotive EF65-1000, including 1019, made its debut in 1969 as a high speed locomotive. It pulled blue sleeping cars or freighters here and there in Japan. It had a through door on its front to prepare for double-locomotive traction, a unique face different from earlier EF65 units.

Specifically, EF65 1019 was dedicated to heading the ?gSuper-Express Rainbow,?h a joyful passenger train for a group of tourists in 1987. At the time, the JNR locomotive was adorned with a special paint scheme having a large white EF65 logo on the side of red body. This locomotive was very popular until it retired in 1998, passing the role to its successor EF65 1118.

Kato plans to make an N-scale model of this locomotive in the first half of 2004
