Broadway Limited is excited to release its most modern diesel locomotive ever - The GE ES44AC.

The Evolution Series 4400HP DC Traction locomotive is part of GE Transportation Systems line of diesel locomotives that were built to meet the EPAs 2005 Tier 2 locomotive emissions standards.

All Evolution Series locomotives delivered to the North American market are six axle locomotives equipped with Nathan-Airchime K5HL-R2 Evolution airhorns. The GE ES44AC is still in use today serving the entire nation through a variety of hauling tasks including traffic resulting from the Ethanol mandate. 

CSX has some 200 units on or coming onto its roster, while Iowa Interstate ordered 14 units. Norfolk Southern purchased 24 units, receiving the first of its allotment in 2008. This spectacularly detailed modern diesel will come equipped with our cutting edge Paragon3 Sound and control system - yet another way that Broadway Limited leads the pack in model railroading technology.

The Evolution locomotive is the most technologically advanced, diesel-electric, heavy-haul locomotive in the world today.     

The GE Evolution Series ET44AC locomotive meets the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) stringent Tier 4 emission standards without the use of any aftertreatment, enabling railroads to gain significant savings through urea infrastructure cost avoidance and reduced operational costs. Part of the Ecomagination-certified Evolution Series, the ET44AC locomotive is designed to meet Tier 4 emissions standards by reducing emissions by 70% below Tier 3 requirements. GE Transportation has invested $600M in the Evolution Series since its introduction in 2005 and is the first supplier of Tier 4 locomotives for Class 1 railroads.

Driving along California's scenic I-5 corridor, there's a good chance you'll see a whole new breed of locomotive pulling heavy freight along Union Pacific's main rail line.

Except for the fresh paint job, the locomotive looks much like any other modern diesel-electric workhorse built by General Electric. The difference is hidden under the hood.

Dubbed the GE Evolution Series Tier 4 Locomotive, the first production models of these massive machines began appearing on Union Pacific railroad property in fall 2015. The 432,000-pound 6-axle behemoths have 4,400 traction horsepower and can reach a maximum speed of 70 miles per hour pulling thousands of tons of freight.

The most impressive statistic has to do with the air you breathe.

"Tier 4" refers to a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) emission-level standard that went into effect for new locomotives Jan. 1, 2015. It's the most rigorous air quality standard to date for new locomotives, and one that locomotive manufacturers were struggling to meet in time for the EPA deadline.
