Kato (Japan) has announced the November 2021 Releases

EF60-500 Express Color Electric Locomotive

■ 3094-4 EF60 500s made the debut in 1963 to replace the locomotives EF58 which had been drawing so far series 20 sleeper trains dubbed “Blue Trains”. The style of blue body + cream front and the side stripe was succeeded by the later EF65, becoming the standard paint scheme for the new type electric locomotives.

■ This locomotive is indispensable to talk about the history of Tokaido blue trains, for it pulled limited express “Sakura” meaning cherry blossoms, etc. as well as limited express “Asakaze” signifying morning breeze with many excellent cars connected in the train.

 

EF61 Electric Locomotive

 ■ EF61 is the only train, 18 of which were all produced solely in the brown paint scheme. At the time of appearance in 1961, this electric locomotive was deployed to Miyahara Engine Depot and pulled limited express trains and inbound series 20 Sleeper Limited Express “Asakaze” meaning morning breeze between Tokyo and Okayama or Hiroshima, but it was replaced by EF60 500s in pulling “Asakaze” and, since then, drew passenger and cargo trains.

Series 20 Express Sleeper "Asakaze" Early Stage Passenger Car Sethttps://static.pwrs.ca/product_images/327590_1.jpg

■ Series 20 Sleeper Limited Express passenger cars made a brilliant debut in 1958 as “Asakaze”, meaning morning breeze, and it was operated some 40 years since then. During the period of 1963 to 1965, as many as 7 cars, more than a half of the train cars, were accounted for by the 1st class cars (sleeping cars and seated coaches) besides those of the 2nd class, making a luxurious train. With the rise of the demand to transport newspapers, 5-ton load KANI 21 replaced MANI 20 as the power supply car.



◆ Product features

① The scale model is based on what belonged to Shinagawa Passenger Car Depot around 1963.

② Cars NAHA 20 and NAHAFU 20 represent the form with the emergency windows remade openable outward.

③ The streamlined room form on the top of (KANI 21 and NAHAFU 20) is reproduced.

Series 285-0 Sunrise Express (Pantograph Increased) 7-Car Passenger Set

■ The popular Series 285 Sunrise Express update to a new version with added pantograph. As a special sleeper’s car the Sunrise Express connects Tokyo, Takamatsu in Shikoku and Izumo in Shimane Prefecture. In 2013 this train was renewed and equipped with a pantograph as well as wider steps for the travelers.
