■ The Series 415 began production in 1971 and is an alternating-current suburban train that can operate on both AC and DC sections at both 50Hz and 60Hz frequencies. Because of the long production period, the seating arrangement and car body shape differ depending on the train number, and there is a lot of variety. The train was initially painted in rose pink, the standard paint color for DC trains, with a cream alert color on the body. However, in 1983, in conjunction with the Tsukuba Expo, a change to a new paint scheme of cream with a blue line began, and during the transitional period, some trains were seen in mixed formations with the new color.
