The 31 prototype LRC locomotives were built by Bombardier between 1981 and 1984. Powered by a 16 cylinder Alco 251F producing 3700 HP, these locomotives were designed for high speed operation on existing track. They lasted in service on VIA until 2001. Two locomotives and ten coaches were also leased to Amtrak and operated in service between New York and Boston.
The HO scale model was scaled dierectly from the prototype and includes all of the details that you would expect from Rapido. All units feature the same smooth running drive components as their acclaimed FP9 locomotoves. Sound-equipped models will include custom decoders utilizing sounds recorded from unit 6521 at Exporail in Montreal, Canada.

TRHA Support

Rapido will donate $100 from every sale of LRC locomotive number 6917 to the Toronto Railway Historical Association, the volunteer-led organization that owns the real #6917. The funds will specifically be earmarked towards the repainting and exterior restoration of the locomotive to as-new condition. TRHA already has the funds to get 6917 operational, so these donations will help make her nice and pretty!
