Based on a popular box car produced by ACF (American Car &
Foundry) from the late 1940?s through the mid-1950?s, this model is
representative of the thousands of similar cars that ran on
virtually all North American rail lines. The 40? Sliding Door Box
Car, considered an American tradition, was originally built to
transport goods in the harsh weather found in various parts of the
United States.
This car features such accurate details as the diagonal roof
panels and improved dreadnaught ends characteristic of the
prototype. These stunning replicas feature striking, accurate paint
schemes and printing and are designed for many hours of reliable
operation and O Scale fun!

Based upon another popular prototype car by ACF (American Car
& Foundry), this ATLAS O TRAINMAN? model captures the look and
function of one of the most utilitarian of all freight cars. Often
called, ?the work horse of the steel industry?, the gondola is
basically a flat car with sides, allowing more, and different
types, of loads to be transported.
The gondola dates to about 1830 and was first used on early
railways and tramways to move coal. Ours features crisp detailing,
including a see-through brakewheel platform and accurate painting
and printing. The ATLAS O TRAINMAN? gondola will find as many uses
on a model railroad as the prototype did on the great rail lines of
America!

The EV Caboose was first introduced to the railroads in the
1950?s, and quickly became, along with the bay window style, the
mainstay of modern caboose design. At the forefront of caboose
production was the International Car Company of Kenton, Ohio, so
naturally, we?ve patterned ours after that impressive original; the
traditional gathering place for the train?s crew.
This ATLAS O TRAINMAN? model represents the typical
International EV Caboose that was produced for many roads, from the
late 1950?s through the 1970?s. We think you?ll find the
prototypical details outstanding, and the craftsmanship
exceptional! No historically accurate layout is complete without a
traditional caboose ? the car that was always last, but never
least!

This ATLAS O TRAINMAN? model is based upon the typical RBL class
of insulated box cars that were used to carry canned goods that
required protection from extremes of temperature, but not
refrigeration. These cars had neither ice bunkers nor cooling
units.
Plug-style doors were normally used to ensure a tight seal in
the insulation. Designed for transport of both perishables and
large loads, plug doors allowed box cars to be sealed from outside
dust and dirt. These ATLAS O TRAINMAN? units are painstakingly
designed to provide many hours of optimum, smooth performance and
hours of modeling enjoyment.

During the heyday of rail transport, livestock was routinely
shipped in complete trainloads to packing plants throughout the
country. The typical stock car was based upon a 40? box car
modified with open slat sides and possibly internal decking for the
smaller breeds of animals. Designed primarily for transporting cows
and pigs, original stock cars date back to the 1860?s, and could
carry up to 20,000 pounds of livestock.
Their use became rare by the 1980?s, due to humane, safety and
cost concerns. This ATLAS O TRAINMAN? model is a typical
reproduction of a once-common freight car style. Resplendent with
eye-popping details and engineered for reliability and historical
accuracy, the ATLAS O TRAINMAN? 40? Stock Car is a must-have
addition to any O Scale layout!
